New Zealand - west coast off the Haast Highway - South Island. A pattern of black and white - lava rock, bush-horizon, lava beach and stones, big sky and cloud patterns. Imagine walking on something like that without a town or settlement for at least 100 kilometres in each direction. I did. It was worth the feast that the blackflies made of me. Truly.
