Lake Pukaki's waters are a surreal green/blue colour as a result of minerals washed down from the surrounding mountain ranges. From this shore to the distant end of the lake as viewed in this image the distance is actually 60 klms or nearly 40 miles - with Mt. Cook (snow-capped) in the distance.
